Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, accounting for as much as 80% of all proteins in the body. It's everywhere - in your bones, teeth, muscles, hair, nails. It is also the main protein in the skin. The word collagen comes from the Greek word "kolla", meaning glue. Collagen is the body's natural glue that holds together and supports the body’s tissues and internal organs. The body can produce collagen on its own, but after the age of 25, the production begins to slow down, and the skin loses 1% of collagen each year. As a result, the skin ages, wrinkles appear, hair loses its shine and starts thinning, and nails become brittle. Collagen loss can also be accelerated by external factors such as pollution, smoking, diet, and photoaging (overexposure to the sun). UV rays stimulate enzymes that break down collagen. There is evidence that collagen loss can be reversed, or at least slowed down, by eating a healthy diet (especially by eating less sugar), avoiding risk factors, and avoiding overexposure to the sun. Proper skin care is also essential, as it protects the collagen in the skin while stimulating the production of new collagen. Depending on the absorption, we differentiate between natural and hydrolysed collagen. Natural collagen is found in animal skin, ligaments and bones, and we can get it from beef broth or gelatine, for example. However, because the collagen in these foods is found in tiny amounts and has a more complex composition (it is made up of several amino acids tightly bound together to form an elongated peptide bond), it is difficult for the body to absorb. Hydrolysed collagen is broken down into smaller particles (peptides) by an enzymatic process so that it can be absorbed into the body five times faster than natural collagen. There are 28 types of collagen, types I, II and III making up the majority (as much as 80-90% of collagen):
Type I is the most abundant type in the body, playing a crucial role in skin, hair and nail health. This type of collagen is mainly derived from fish.
Type II is important in joint and digestive health and can be found in cartilage, bones and intestinal epithelium. It is often derived from chicken.
Type III is the second most abundant type and can be found in the blood vessels, bowel, muscles and uterus. It is most often derived from bovine.
SWY collagen consists of Naticol® and OmniCol™ collagen:
Naticol® → hydrolysed type I collagen, derived from fish and exceptionally pure.
OmniCol™ → hydrolysed type III collagen, derived from bovine, naturally sourced from pasture-raised bovine without added hormones.
OUR COLLAGEN ALSO HAS ...

Vitamin C - plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis and acts as an antioxidant, stimulating the immune system and promoting nutrient absorption.
Zinc - plays a vital role in regular growth and development of the body, neurological functions (brain and sensory function), stimulating wound healing and the immune system. It has to be consumed daily, as the body is not able to store it.
Hyaluronic acid - is one of the main components of connective tissue, keeping the skin moisturised, elastic and firm.
And we can’t forget about the excellent taste of our collagen - as opposed to most collagens on the market, our collagen doesn't have a fishy aftertaste and is, therefore, delicious.
